I'm sure they would...but this isn't about adults is it? It is about children. There are so many studies that have been done it is silly. They all say the same thing...give kids food while in school and they perform better.

If kids perform better...will the country benefit in the long-term from the this small expenditure? What expenditure you ask? It cost 19 cents a day to feed one child in a US school program in 2008. You adjust to today's rates.

Yeah yeah according to legend. In real life this only rarely happened for a number of reasons starting with paternity tests didn't exist. If this was a regular thing women would simply get laid and CLAIM it was whomever was the richest man it town's baby. There also wouldn't be so many illegitimit children. And I suspect that back in the day when babies were born without doctors and without records that if you were too poor they simply vanished someplace.

1. How do you propose we do that? We are broke, remember? It's easy to sit there and say "something should be done", but what is it you think should be done?

2. You want to punish the father criminally? How can he pay if he's in jail?

3. How do you get blood from a stone? If the father won't work, where does the money come from?
 
What about about a family of six that get by on wages not much higher than minimum wage that fall below the poverty line? Let's say they're married rural Christian conservatives in Alabama. They live in an tiny home and are dealing with debt issues. Luckily they have Medicaid and food stamps.

Even better, let's go with the Republican idea of abolishing minimum wage. Now this family is trying to survive on $6.50 an hour instead of $7.25.

You didn't state that men were engaging in irresponsible and immoral behaviour, you limited those accusations to women.

And of course, you are willing to pay higher taxes to build the debtor's prisons, work camps and child labour/training centres that your pogrom is going to require? Another million government employees to operate your camps, the hospitals for the pregnant teenagers or do they just have their babies wherever they happen to be standing on the assembly line? I trust that since you are planning to require single women without jobs to wear chastity belts (to enforce your good christian morals one can only suppose, you plan to pay for that with tax money.
 
Last year, the National School Lunch Program cost $9.8 billion (let's round to 10). The cost of incarceration was $60 billion in 2006 (let's add 10 to get it close to today's cost). So that is 1:7. If feeding kids reduces the rate of incarceration by 20% (as seen in numerous studies)...that means you saved $14 billion for a $10 billion investment (not adjusted for inflation) PLUS you get to make money on their increased wage earning ability.

All Detroit Public Schools students will receive free breakfast, lunch and snacks in an effort to remove the stigma of being from a low-income family.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture program chose Michigan as one of three states to participate in the pilot program. Charter schools and districts in Michigan can participate if at least 40% of students are eligible for public assistance.

“One of the primary goals of this program is to eliminate the stigma that students feel when they get a free lunch, as opposed to paying cash,” said DPS Chief Operating Officer Mark Schrupp. “Some students would skip important meals to avoid being identified as low-income. Now, all students will walk through a lunch line and not have to pay. Low-income students will not be easily identifiable and will be less likely to skip meals.”

Although not required to participate, parents are still being asked to fill out a survey that includes income analysis to ensure that children, schools and the district will continue to receive millions of dollars in benefits and resources from the state and federal governments, as well as private grants. Program funding dependent on the surveys includes tutoring, after-school programs, field trips, technology and equipment, DDOT bus cards, free college testing, enrichment activities and others.

The Community Eligibility Option is among the early reforms enacted under President Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, which authorized the USDA to select up to three states to test the option in School Year 2011-12. A main factor in choosing the finalists was the prevalence of high-poverty areas. The option will be offered to more states in successive years, and will be available to all states beginning School Year 2014-15.
