why do people reply to threads without reading the entire thing?

Yes, I did read the whole thing. I highlighted the last part because it was the only thing that had anything to do with the thread topic and was what I was responding to. That seems to be a common convention here. And I found it weird that you ranted on about other topics, then said you didn't read the thread, when that's what the thread is about: people who fail to read threads well. I couldn't figure out if your post was a parody of the poster who doesn't read the thread, or just terribly ironic.

I don't always read the whole thing....depends on where the thread is going really. I don't always have time to sit here and read the whole thing.
 
Many Lit'ers seem to be ADD type folks....having difficulty staying with one issue or one thread or one forum for any extended period of time....perhaps in their browsing for their masturbation material of the day, they simply move along quickly....
 
Also they could scroll down really fast and miss all the good stuff in a thread. I blame whoever invented the mouse wheel.

Or perhaps we just have real lives. This is a big site and to take in everything would be impossible unless we had nothing better to do with our time than to stay on here for hours and hours. I have had 1300 posts in 6 1/2 years. I actually feel sorry for those who have tens or thousands or hundreds of thousands of posts in a shorter time frame than I have been here. They truly do not have real lives and have absolutely nothing better to do than to be on Literotica several hours every day.

Have you ever thought that those people you're criticizing just have a different perspective of Lit than you do? You clearly see it as a waste of time (which makes me wonder why YOU'RE here; don't YOU have anything better to do than spend your time somewhere with so little value to you?), whereas others see it as a community, place to learn, express themselves, help others, improve their skills, make friends with similar interests, etc.

People who are so busy pointing fingers and criticizing others are usually seriously unhappy with their own lives and/or have nothing better to contribute.

I'm guilty of that but I'll always finish the thread and edit my post, if needed. Quite often my post is in draft form for quite some time as I pick up items from multiple posts within the thread to refer to.

Pulling on Silverwhisper's favorite testicle here, and replying to one of the first posts - but at the very end of the thread... I do want to attempt to answer your question.
I know I am totally guilty of this, and here's a bit of why I think that's so:
'Tis true, there isn't the time in the universe available to read every strand of every thread. Wish it weren't so, but, when one goes to the "what should I do if I am a newb" thread, it is clearly stated that the discussion boards are life eating time wasters. So, who can blame anyone for following the sage advice of gurus?
Also, I really wanted to take a crack at answering your obviously honest question. This is the only way to get that done if one only has time to hit certain threads every now and then...
I moved to a foreign country once (yeah, they kicked me out :rolleyes:) but I was amazed at how childish my social skills were at first. In a civilized country (it was Spain) you might expect to fit in if you are reasonably intelligent and speak the language (CASTELLANO!!!!!). I still stood out like a 4 year old at a 1st grader party for the first few weeks... That's what I felt like here as well when I got on board. Looks like you have been here a while - I have never been a part of a cummunity (could not resist...) like this before in my life, so the things that might seem plain as the nose on your face are still hidden and mysterious to me - I'm think I'm getting it, though - hope so.
As to the stickies and searches, I think there are certain timeless things that works for, but some subjects you just want interaction from the new friends you are making on the board, and to see what happens, you know?

I suppose, new or old, I just prefer to get the lay of the land before jumping in and potentially making a faux pas. I can't really imagine going into a forum and not browsing the threads, starting at the top (where the stickies are). And if I see something like FAQs - Read Before Posting Help Questions, well you can be damn sure I'll browse it before posting my own help questions.

I'm a cumpulsive ( :p ) sign reader and observer in the non-virtual world, too, though.

And have debated this MO with several newcomers when they feel the regulars have gotten all snippy over forum etiquette. To me, it just seems to be a no brainer. But to each his own. :)
