Moderation show-and-tell, anyone?

Youre welcome to post whatever you wish so long as the Usual Suspects like it. If one of them doesnt like it youre a troll and hateful.

You, like amicus, are dancing around the elephant in the room. Trying to avoid acknowledging that these threads show there's no such thing here as the "usual suspects" intentional grouping. :D

And Stella and friends are dancing around the other elephant in the room--that there once was such a grouping and that's the past nirvanna period they are all lamenting loosing.

So, everybody wins/loses.

CHARLEY

Moderators yield to pressure from obsessive whiners such as STELLA. people like STELLA will pester a moderator to death, till they give in or quit. STELLA doesnt respect the owner's policy, she wont respect a moderator. So the line has to be drawn with her.

I have seen this ruin a couple of forums I went o in the past. all it took was for a couple of people wanting everything their way. When they didn't get it right away they brought everything out for a discussion like this. All that did was to pretty much dived ever one in to two camps. We already have policy here it is very simple. If you don't like something then just don't open it. Do we really need all this drama?

REDPAINT

I have no idea how much drama anyone wants.

I will make a wee confession, though. I wanted to prove that the biggest whiners dont have me on ignore as they like to boast about. You gotta light a fire to smoke um out. And I grow weary of your friends greeting newcomers with IGNORE HIM, EVERYONE DOES.

Go speak with your friends and lets talk again.

I don't think any friends of mine have you on a iggy list. I think you have as much right to say what you want as anyone else. I also don't like it when People tell the noobs that. To me that is a form of Bulling the noob, "Do what we say or we wont play with you".

James, this post gives me an idea, though I hesitate to say it and get my eyebrows flamed off by both sides. I will try, but then I'm leaving it in the hands of those it concerns.

Are we to take this post as your willingness to bury the hatchet with Stella? Because it does seem to me there won't be any peace around here, with or without moderation, until the two of you find a way of dealing with each other that won't involve the rest of us.

Stella and you have both proven your points amply by now. If some residents thought they could make you crawl off and die, you showed them you won't. If you thought Stella would take the insults lying down, she showed you she wouldn't. All good and well, but now you've reached the pat position, and the rest of us are your unwilling hostages.

So is there some sort of agreement you could come to? I don't mean be friends, though stranger things have happened, but maybe you could be either dignified enemies or leave each other entirely and mutually alone.

I have no idea if either of you is amenable to finding a solution that wouldn't involve either censorship or eternal war, but perhaps you could consider it for the benefit of the rest of us.

Call me a cynic, but I doubt it. It's become a war of egos.

Its more like what goes around comes around. Fuck with me and I'll fuck you back. Its that simple. What you bring to me is what you take with you. And anyone who doesnt like what they got might want to think about what they gave.

But you have to admit you invite a lot of hostility. Maybe you think you're just being blunt, but people tend to take offense at that.

Personally, I just do not understand why anyone on Lit has a problem with a moderator. I mean, WHAT ARE YOU SO AFRAID OF? I have posted numerous times that a moderator would clean up the threads and prevent spam more frequently than Laurel can get to the job. Got a problem with it? I have been here when scat pictures were posted by Brinnie. I thought (more than the majority apparently) that she was making a point about the 2257 laws. I'd have not even got rid of Brinnie and that's how devoted I am to free speech. I do not have a problem with a moderator. A moderator in my eyes is not in charge of what you say. You'd still be welcome to hiss your hate, but you would be required to hiss it more creatively than using words that discriminate against the diverse posters that Literotica attracts. It's a simple as that. What is the problem?

When you put it that way, there is no problem. But what I've seen throughout this thread smacks more of censorship than moderation.

If a moderator were assigned to the AH, probably nothing would change. All this talk will have been a mainly wasted effort. Hopefully.

But it's the possibilities associated with the flip side of "hopefully" that has some people worried.

It's a simple process and hardly anyone will notice. Even Stella (whom I cannot speak for) just wants the smell of discrimination gone. Nothing wrong with that and I doubt anyone could disagree. Not much would change, the AH would simply be more organized and a little less GB. I am sure Liar can attest to the benefits of Poetry Board moderation?

Now you see, you have just illustrated a problem;

An awful lot of people say he's being a troll. Of course a troll will refuse to admit that he is one, and jbj claims he's just being "blunt," and that the people he fucks with "deserve it." I know why he thinks I deserve it-- because I asked him to stop targeting me once upon a time.

You say trolls should be shunned.

You are not shunning jbj.

This proves to jbj that he is not being shunned.

And whatever he says is perfectly all right with the forum members here-- except for the ones that don't like it, and they don't desewrve any consideration from him anyway.

You're making a false assumption there, Stella. Yes, trolls should be shunned. I don't consider JBJ a troll. He's an asshole, sure. But he has interesting things to say sometimes.

I have to agree with the slyc one. Many of JBJ's posts, maybe even the majority, are just insulting and stirring up trouble, but he also frequently makes intelligent observations. You can usually tell, because the short ones are just flinging poo but the longer ones are sometimes worth reading.

Well, there you go then. He doesn't insult willy, and he makes willy laugh, so willy says he isn't so bad.

As long as one person thinks someone is not a troll, we don't get community coherence.

I don't want jbj banned, honestly. A lot of people tell me that he posts interesting things. But what he says about me, sarah, and his high-handedness talking about so many embattled minorities -- The unrelenting ugly make the possible interesting SO not worth my while.

If I could request that he mind his manners, I would. I already tried that, with the result that I've become one of the foci of his bullying. If I could request that his manners were minded for him-- Sometimes, we need, and we deserve, a little consideration.

Willy would you be willing to tell jbj when he's gone too far in his words to me, since you don't think he should be shunned? Because so far everyone who is sick of him has him on ignore. But he fervently believes that people read his posts anyway. And you have shown that he's right.

If you have JBJ on ignore, what's your problem with his posts, Stella?

And is it fair to ask members of the community to step up to a poster maligning you when your personal answer is to put everyone like this on ignore--which includes ignoring that your fellow community members are being maligned and should, should they not, be able to count on you stepping up to protect them if you expect that for yourself?

Oh, he's insulted me several times, and I've responded in kind. But I see his behavior as more bullyish than trollish. Once he knows he can get to you, he'll keep doing it until you show him it doesn't bother you. Because he attacks for the effect of it. That's all.

I'm not going to be anyone's patrolman. I'm not a moderator. ;) And yes, I read his posts. Like I said, he sometimes has interesting things to say. Just because he's an asshole doesn't mean he can't be intelligent (or at least well-read).
