Jeremiah Wright Was a Muslim: Why That Matters
By Bud WhitecloseAuthor:

“I am a part of all that I have met.” Ulysses by Tennyson

The Obama-lovin’ media wants you to believe that the Reverend Wright earthquake has passed. Some would have you believe that Obama turned a negative into a positive with his embarrassing public contortionism defending Wright and giving us a history lesson on American racism from Plymouth Rock to the Freedom Riders, as if Reverend Wright’s inexcusable hate needs a context.

Nothing is further from the truth.

There is much to be told about Reverend Wright, Obama’s mentorship with this hate-monger, and the larger implication this relationship has for the Democratic Party and its strained coalition.

Long before Reverend Wright entered the national stage, Ryan Lizza of The New Republic, in the March 19, 2007 issue, dropped this little gem:

Wright was a former Muslim and black nationalist who had studied at Howard and Chicago, and Trinity’s guiding principles–what the church calls the “Black Value System”[Emphasis added]

Why should Reverend Wright’s past as Muslim concern us?

First, Reverend Wright’s hate sermons are virtually identical as those given by his good friend, Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who followed in the footsteps of Malcolm X. For example, this description by Ben Wallace Wells, published in Rolling Stone—a magazine that favors Obama, most likely in serving the interests of their demographic–in February, prior to the release of the Wright videos, makes clear the connection:

Wright takes the pulpit here one Sunday and solemnly, sonorously declares that he will recite ten essential facts about the United States. “Fact number one: We’ve got more black men in prison than there are in college,” he intones.

“Fact number two: Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!” There is thumping applause; Wright has a cadence and power that make Obama sound like John Kerry.

Now the reverend begins to preach. “We are deeply involved in the importing of drugs, the exporting of guns and the training of professional KILLERS. . . . We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God. . . . We conducted radiation experiments on our own people. . . . We care nothing about human life if the ends justify the means!”

The crowd whoops and amens as Wright builds to his climax: “And. And. And! GAWD! Has GOT! To be SICK! OF THIS SHIT!…This is as openly radical a background as any significant American political figure has ever emerged from, as much Malcolm X as Martin Luther King Jr.

The racist paranoia of AIDS being developed by white America to kill blacks and other inexcusable statements are from the same framework of the NOI and Farrakhan. In fact:

In 1984, Wright was one of the inner circle that traveled with Farrakhan to visit Libyan strongman Col. Muammar Khadafy. The ostentatious Farrakhan junket came at a time when Khadafy had been identified as the world’s chief financier of international terrorism, including the Black September group behind the Munich Olympics massacre.

Secondly, while Obama’s plagiarism of a speech delivered by Nation of Islam leader Malcolm X to mostly black audiences has been correctly noted as a racial dog-whistle, it has not been examined in the larger context of the black separatist movement from which it originates.

Third, why did Wright’s church put the racist and anti-Semitic Farrakhan on the cover of its magazine Trumpet? Why did Trinity Church post:

a manifesto by Hamas that defended terrorism as legitimate resistance, refused to recognize the right of Israel to exist and compared the terror group’s official charter – which calls for the murder of Jews – to America’s Declaration of Independence[?]

The three points above show a consistent pattern of Wright parroting not only the language and but also the attitude of the Nation of Islam.

Wright has synthesized Christianity and an odious brand of Islam. When two religions become one, social scientists refer to this as a syncretic religion.
For example, the Mayans developed Mexican Catholicism as a subversive way to maintain their culture in the face of Spanish conquest.

The Reverend Wright may no longer be a Muslim, but he clearly embraces Hamas, Minister Farrakhan and others because they dovetail with his established world view, as with other syncretic religions.

Reverend Wright’s hate speeches are a glimpse of someone who has blended Nation of Islam and Black Nationalist Liberation Theology into a subversive Christianity, one that would hardly be recognized by most black Christians, and much less so mainstream American Christians, regardless of color. Indeed, one suspects that Jesus himself would have a difficult time recognizing the message delivered by Jeremiah Wright.

Obama’s 20-year mentorship with Wright not only demonstrates an incredible lack of judgment, but also highlights his views on race. Comments about his Grandmother being a typical white person may simply sound immature, unappreciative, and dismissive of the woman who helped raise him, but in the tradition of Malcolm X, Louis Farrakhan, and Jeremiah Wright, calling someone a typical white person is an insult indicating a world view.

Thanks BB. I did a search over at the New Republic and wasn't able to find the article. Maybe with the author citation I'll have better luck.

I think it's fair to point out that the New Republic isn't known in journalistic circles for vetting it's material. Then again, neither is the NYT or CBS anymore. <shrug>

Another interesting point is that there seems to be a tie in between Saul Alinsky and Wright as well. Obama is a little too young To have mentored under Alinsky.

I'm sure there are more than a few chasing this info down and if Obama gets the nod it will end up being more grist for the mill. (Assuming Hillary doesn't do an data dump of this information the Friday before the PA primary.)

whats interesting is

the last C n P I posted

came from a FAR LEFT BLOG

THEY are now DUMPING on BAM/Wright

Ok, its a ClitBITCH leaning BLOG, but

reading the comments to the "story" leads me to believe that some are really HATING the COLORED guy

Maybe I should post a "sermon" given by BAM that shows him to be a

TYPICAL ANGRY BLACK MAN!

He pretends and the media helps

To be a NEW AGE ABOVE IT ALL POLITICIAN

and in fact

he is a TYPICAL Chicago pol and a TYPICAL ANGRY BLACK MAN

of course his wife is even more so and even more obvioulsy so

see? what Wright really said was

only

about a discussion of race

can you imagine ANYONE saying that about the KKK or White Power?

MORE OF THE WRIGHT STUFF: "Just to keep up to date, the noxious Rev. Jeremiah Wright will speak at the Detroit branch of the NAACP 53rd Annual Fight for Freedom Fund dinner. I would have jumped on this one yesterday, but given that NAACP chair Julian Bond has compared the GOP to the Taliban, given an award to someone who called Condoleeza Rice a murderer, and engaged in bizzare conspiracy theories about Hurricane Katrina, it is far more predictable than outrageous (though it is that also)."

and if you dont think THIS will be ignored during the elections

you are foolish

of course the LIBZ will scream REPOH ATTACK MACHINE

But America will care

Obama's Fancied the Chicago Terror Gang-- Partied With Bombers & Former PLO Operative

Barack Obama & Terror Bomber William Ayers Partied With Former PLO Operative---

Barack Obama, terrorist Bill Ayers and former PLO operative Rashid Khalidi were good friends and even partied together in Chicago.
Both terrorist Ayers and former PLO operative Khalidi have held fundraisers for Obama in the past.

Is this radical enough for you?...

Terrorist William Ayers (left), Barack Obama and former PLO operative Rashid Khalidi(right) were close friends in Chicago.

Rashid Khalidi and Barack Obama were close friends in Chicago.

Rashid was also a former PLO operative who often spoke to reporters on behalf of Yasser Arafat's Palestine Liberation Organization when he lived in Beirut.

Tom Maguire posted on Rashid Khalidi yesterday and pointed out this report from the LA Times on Barack Obama's Palestinian allies:

CHICAGO -- It was a celebration of Palestinian culture -- a night of music, dancing and a dash of politics. Local Arab Americans were bidding farewell to Rashid Khalidi, an internationally known scholar, critic of Israel and advocate for Palestinian rights, who was leaving town for a job in New York.

A special tribute came from Khalidi's friend and frequent dinner companion, the young state Sen. Barack Obama. Speaking to the crowd, Obama reminisced about meals prepared by Khalidi's wife, Mona, and conversations that had challenged his thinking.

His many talks with the Khalidis, Obama said, had been "consistent reminders to me of my own blind spots and my own biases... It's for that reason that I'm hoping that, for many years to come, we continue that conversation -- a conversation that is necessary not just around Mona and Rashid's dinner table," but around "this entire world."

...While teaching at the University of Chicago, Khalidi and his wife lived in the Hyde Park neighborhood near the Obamas. The families became friends and dinner companions.

In 2000, the Khalidis held a fundraiser for Obama's unsuccessful congressional bid. The next year, a social service group whose board was headed by Mona Khalidi received a $40,000 grant from a local charity, the Woods Fund of Chicago, when Obama served on the fund's board of directors.

At Khalidi's going-away party in 2003, the scholar lavished praise on Obama, telling the mostly Palestinian American crowd that the state senator deserved their help in winning a U.S. Senate seat. "You will not have a better senator under any circumstances," Khalidi said.

The event was videotaped, and a copy of the tape was obtained by The Times.

Though Khalidi has seen little of Sen. Obama in recent years, Michelle Obama attended a party several months ago celebrating the marriage of the Khalidis' daughter.

Columbia University got a twofer when they hired Rashid Khalidi--
Both Rashid and his wife Mona were strong Palestinian sympathizers.
And... Guess who else was at the Khalidi going away party in Chi-town?
Campus Watch reported:

In bringing professor Khalidi to Morningside Heights from the University of Chicago, Columbia also got itself a twofer of Palestinian activism and advocacy. Mr. Khalidi's wife, Mona, who also served in Beirut as chief editor of the English section of the WAFA press agency, was hired as dean of foreign students at Columbia's SIPA, working under Dean Anderson. In Chicago, the Khalidis founded the Arab American Action Network, and Mona Khalidi served as its president.

A big farewell dinner was held in their honor by AAAN with a commemorative book filled with testimonials from their friends and political allies. These included the left wing anti-war group Not In My Name, the Electronic Intifada, and the ex-Weatherman domestic terrorists Bernadine Dohrn and Bill Ayers. (There were also testimonials from then-state Senator Barack Obama and the mayor of Chicago.)

As far as his connections with Obama, Khalidi has not been forthright in recent interviews, via the Jewish Press:

Concerning Obama’s role in funding AAAN, Khalidi claimed he "never heard of the Woods Fund until it popped up on a bunch of blogs a few months ago." He terminated the interview when pressed further about his links with Obama. Contacted by phone, Mona Khalidi refused to answer questions about AAAN’s involvement with Obama.

World Net Daily reported that as director of the Woods Fund board in Chicago Barack Obama, along with William Ayers, granted Khalidi's controversial anti-Israel group the Arab American Action Network, or AAAN, $40,000 in 2001 and $35,000 in 2002.

Obama's Pro-Israel, Pro-Palestinian Positions
By Jeralyn, Section Elections 2008
Posted on Fri Apr 11, 2008 at 07:06:00 AM EST

Where's Obama on Israel and the Palestinians? On both sides.

Since running for President, he's become an outspoken supporter of Israel. While in the Illinois legislature, he was a friend, supporter and beneficiary of Palestinians whose organizations trashed Israel.

Yesterday, when asked on the campaign trail about why he didn't denounce Louis Farakahn before he became an issue in the campaign, Obama said:

Obama reminded the crowd that he'd denounced his church’s praise of Farrakhan, saying, "I’ve been very clear about saying that was wrong. And nobody has spoken out more fiercely on the issue of anti- Semitism than I have."

Jake Tapper of ABC News responds:

Really? No one? Elie Wiesel? Simon Wiesenthal? Alan Dershowitz? No one? Wow.

From the LA Times article linked above:

It was a celebration of Palestinian culture -- a night of music, dancing and a dash of politics.

Speaking to the crowd, Obama reminisced about meals prepared by Khalidi's wife, Mona, and conversations that had challenged his thinking.

....Today, five years later, Obama is a U.S. senator from Illinois who expresses a firmly pro-Israel view of Middle East politics, pleasing many of the Jewish leaders and advocates for Israel whom he is courting in his presidential campaign. The dinner conversations he had envisioned with his Palestinian American friend have ended. He and Khalidi have seen each other only fleetingly in recent years.

...And yet the warm embrace Obama gave to Khalidi, and words like those at the professor's going-away party, have left some Palestinian American leaders believing that Obama is more receptive to their viewpoint than he is willing to say.

Their belief is not drawn from Obama's speeches or campaign literature, but from comments that some say Obama made in private and from his association with the Palestinian American community in his hometown of Chicago, including his presence at events where anger at Israeli and U.S. Middle East policy was freely expressed.

Then there's this:

Ali Abunimah, a Palestinian rights activist in Chicago who helps run Electronic Intifada, said that he met Obama several times at Palestinian and Arab American community events. At one, a 2000 fundraiser at a private home, Obama called for the U.S. to take an "even-handed" approach toward Israel, Abunimah wrote in an article on the website last year. He did not cite Obama's specific criticisms.

Abunimah, in a Times interview and on his website, said Obama seemed sympathetic to the Palestinian cause but more circumspect as he ran for the U.S. Senate in 2004. At a dinner gathering that year, Abunimah said, Obama greeted him warmly and said privately that he needed to speak cautiously about the Middle East.

Abunimah quoted Obama as saying that he was sorry he wasn't talking more about the Palestinian cause, but that his primary campaign had constrained what he could say.

Obama denies saying "those words" to Abunimah. David Axlerod explains:

"He always had expressed solicitude for the Palestinian people, who have been ill-served and have suffered greatly from the refusal of their leaders to renounce violence and recognize Israel's right to exist."

One more example:

While some members of the Jewish community have praised Obama, others, as well as some Jewish leaders, are skeptical:

"In the context of spending 20 years in a church where now it is clear the anti-Israel rhetoric was there, was repeated, . . . that's what makes his presence at an Arab American event with a Said a greater concern," said Abraham H. Foxman, national director for the Anti-Defamation League.

To be fair, Obama has repudiated Wright's anti-Israel remarks.

In Pennsylvania a few weeks ago, Marcel Groen, the chairman of the Montgomery County Democratic Party had this to say at a "gathering of Jewish communal and organizational leaders in Philadelphia."

Jews "don't have the luxury to decide if someone may be OK down the road...We have one candidate we know, the other we don't," Groen said, referring to U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.)

The highest ranking Jewish leader in PA is Governor Ed Rendell, who supports Hillary, as does Rep. Allyson Schwartz.

The way I see it: It's true that Obama has been a supporter of Israel since becoming Senator and especially since running for President. But, as a state legislator in Illinois, he more often expressed his support for Palestinian rights and opposition to Israel's militarism.

What will he do as President? Will he support one at the expense of the other or be committed to a two-state solution? Toss a coin, you have a 50% chance of being right.

Related: One reporter complains of the "tight rein" Obama's campaign is keeping on its staffers and surrogates when it comes to speaking about the issue. She asks,

Who else are the Obama powers hiding while there are still so many serious questions floating out there among Jews about the man who would be president?

Pure Antisemitism at Official Obama Site

Wed, Apr 9, 2008 at 9:00:45 am PDT

Hosted at the official Barack Obama campaign web site, this blog post has been public since March 1, 2008: IKEY G-KHAN GALACTICCA’s Support Senator Barack Obama For US President Blog: Jews Cannot Afford Not To Support Obama.

Obamanism is the cure for Clintonitis that has devastated America and I hope Jews all over US rally around Obama and support him to win both the nomination and the Presidency because after he wins, he would help the Jews and Israel as well as settle the Middle East problems.

However, if Jews betray Obama and he loses, Africans worldwide would consider it a betrayal to the whole African people and will never forgive world Jewry.

In retaliation, (eye for eye, remember!) Africa would consider expelling all Jews from Africa who have been mining African Gold and Diamond and enriching themselves for many centuries.

It was African gold and diamond that built international finance, trade and banking that the Jews (Rothschild, Warbug, Rockefeller and others) dominate.

It was African gold and diamond that built Jewish banks and wealth worldwide.

It goes on in this vein for a long time, concluding with:

Americans seem to be in slumber and in complete denial of the present dangerous and volatile world situation.

This is where Jews can help.

By supporting Obama to win, they would cure America of Clintonitis and thereby be able to find a permanent solution to the Arab-Jewish problem in the Middle East.

Jews must support Obama or face grave consequences. You cannot afford not to.

AP Poll Shifts From 10 Point Obama Lead to Tie With McCain

This poll result is interesting — it seems that some polls are showing Wright fallout, (or some other factor triggering a slide in Obama's numbers) and some aren't.

An AP-Ipsos poll taken in late February had Obama leading McCain 51-41 percent. The current survey, conducted April 7-9, had them at 45 percent each. McCain leads Obama among men, whites, Southerners, married women and independents.

Clinton led McCain, 48-43 percent, in February. The latest survey showed the New York senator with 48 percent support to McCain's 45 percent. Factoring in the poll's margin of error of 3.1 percentage points, Clinton and McCain are statistically tied.

I was thinking that same thing just a month or two ago, but now I'm not so sure. Maybe the reteroic has been toned down because of the gap between primaries; I’m jut not hearing that much from either camp. But if Hillary wins the big states, you know, she won't quit yacking. Should be a fun summer...

It doesn't matter if they have slowed it down they still have that experience to draw on. And, the only reason they slowed down is because the DNC slaped them on their wrists.

Wow. I've seen "spin" before, but that's amazing!

In national politics, one does not become "battle hardened." One simply becomes battered. Once battered, recovery is unlikely. See, for example:

Stevenson
Johnson
Mondale
McGovern
Carter
Bush I
Gore
Kerry

How many racist remarks would a KKK member have to make to be branded (properly) a racist?

No amount of hunting for context will excuse Wright's words.
