The rope artist in me loved the performance. The rope geek in me was cursing the black rope over black fabric on a black set. Fuck.

Monk is a consummate performer there, and a cool guy in person. His boi's really cool too. She's funny as hell.

And his rope really is THAT good.

And apparently, the rope is blue. But the low resolution makes it hard to see the contrast nonetheless. I hear that he plans on making a DVD for sale of his videoblogs in HR.

Well, I can't say since I wasn't there.

But as regular reader of Monk's blog, I know that Monk and Alex have patterned their relationship as a Daddy/boi one, and that Monk always refer to Alex in writing as 'he'.

I've been a busy rope jockey lately. Very little of it has been terribly photogenic though. Still, this is my thread, I'm a rope geek, and I'll post what makes me happy. So there.

This photo will mean little to people who aren't rope geeks. These are footrope knots, and they are in-line knots. Classically, they were used on footropes. Crazy, I know. The footrope was the line that sailors stood on when up in the rigging, and these knots were put into foot ropes to give the sailors something to stop against. In this milieu, they make excellent rope finishers. In short, it's a knot tied into the end of the rope to keep it from fraying. It also has a few other uses, asuch as making it dead easy to attach additional rope to a tie by simply cinching a larkshead around the footrope knotted end.

Like I said, rope geek stuff. Now that I've gotten these down, I've re-finished all of my natural fibre rope in a long frenzy of tying. Whee.

Yep, that's a pile of hemp. I find it exciting. I bought a 3kg unconditioned spool from Rainbow Rope. These spools usually yield about 100'. For some reason, mine yielded about 140' of rope. So I made the three 10m lengths I planned on, and two 9m lengths. Rawr. I finished the ends, washed em, dried em, burnt em (defuzzed by fire), washed em, dried em, oiled them, and hung em up to finish drying. And then this morning I used a 9m length for some impromptu, and hot, test tying. Sorry, no pics taken. I was more interested in other things. :D

This is a shot of a cuff I've been playing with lately. It's based on the so-called catspaw cuff. I dig the catspaw, but there are some redundant wraps in it that adds to bulk. If I was using it for suspension, I could see the additional wraps, but for floorwork, or tying someone to a bed, this Catspaw Lite is a lot quicker. I think it looks cool too. It also refrains from tightening, and is comfortable. Maybe I'll take some sequential shots and give a how-to. We'll see. I want to test it some more before I pronounce it done.

And to show that I have been doing some tying, here's a tie that I call "Fuck an Arm Binder" (not the Japanese name, obviously):

It's nicely secure, more so if your bottom has flexible shoulders, and has ropes around the front for additional security. It's also dead easy to modify to include crotchropes and such. Good stuff.

Thanks! It kinda wierd. Yeah, I get all wound up over the traditional Japanese style ropework, but there's also this crazy punk aesthetic that speaks to me. Brightly coloured rope is a much better medium for that.

And, let's face it, variation is a good thing.
