every single dog in my neighbourhood is howling.
they've been at it for about 10 minutes already.
normally at this time in the afternoon, they bark for a short while, but this is an eerie howling that's almost drowning out the noise of the traffic!
totally freaky.
i'm getting duckbumples listening to it.

what sets dogs off to do this?
none of my dogs has ever been a howler.

they know something you don't

maybe they can hear or smell or feel something that distresses them... like the vibrations in the ground because of a seismic shift

maybe something's in their area that shouldn't be, disturbing them

must sound kkind of creepy if it's more than the normal neighbouthood dog-speke

there are several types of howl.
it only takes one howler to set them off.
sometimes it's just a happy, unifying thing...a bonding ritual.

they're still going... the sound is really getting inside my head now!
i have never heard this round here.
definitely not the normal dog-speak.

it's a long, drawn-out low howling that just seems to be going on and on.
it's been about 20 minutes now and they're still at the same level.

yes, like that.
except these aren't wolves... these are yorkies, spaniels, labradors, et.

they don't know they aren't wolves ;)

where you live, do you have any large predators ever wander into the vicinity? like - a bear or something? they pass the message around - it's their hood and they warn everyone...

maybe it's something really really spooky though.....

or something being tested (some aircraft or machinery in a plant even) that produces sound above human-hearing range and they can hear it... something is definitely disturbing them

i am right in the city center (4 minutes from the high-rise district - only large predators here are drunk abo's).
could be something i can't hear that's doing it.

it could be a noise...

voilins used to set one of my dogs off.

but once they start they enjoy it.

if you ever find out, post it so we know :)

i sure as shit hope it's not an earthquake warning. - of course it won't be, it'll be something mundane, but oh - imagination... american werewolf in london springs to mind :D

for something they apparently enjoy - they are freaking a whole pile of people right out!
neighbours are coming out of houses now.

there is definitely that element to be considered :D all those bored pooches - and this might be their excitement for a year! maybe they're just making the most of it.

foxes during the breeding season make the weirdest noises - used to scare me as a kid till i knew what it was.... once i even thought it was a vampire bat outside my bedroom window trying to get in (yeah, what? i was 7, lol)

nope. i peeked over the fence to next door, and both their dogs are lying down, calm.
i guess that's the 'twilight zone' moment gone for this year!
