Chris Rock is saying the same thing as Bill Cosby

Yet again, you are assuming that all blacks are the same. No "some."

I for one do not distinguish between the two terms, and I use neither in conversation.

Does that surprise you?

When are you going to learn that my skin color does not mean my opinion and actions are the same as the black guy down the street?
No, it doesn't surprise me. And when are you going to learn that just because I ask a question or demonstrate ignorance when it comes to African Americans doesn't make me racist and doesn't mean that I think all black people are the same. I honestly don't even know where you're drawing that assumption from. I said that I didn't understand why it's okay for black people to say "nigga", but not "nigger"....so? How is that even implying that I think all are the same?

I think she was asking a question, not assuming anything. Is that what Geisha Girl meant?

As I said, you did not say "some."

Also note, I did not say you are a racist.

If you haven't learned - after the whole thing last week - to say "some blacks" if that is in fact what you mean, I certainly can't answer any of your questions.

By the by, if a large number of people draw from your words something you did not intend, it is time to examine your writing style. You cannot cling to this belief than everybody is wrong except for you. You aren't expressing yourself well, and should do something about it (if you care). Especially if you really want to go into journalism, as you have said.

I'm not expressing myself well because I don't include the word "some" in every post I make about African Americans? LoL I'm not going to butter anything up just because a couple literalists on a porn board will think I'm "stupid" and "racist". I don't say *some* white people or *some* dogs or *some* anything when I post. I say "white people are..." and "dogs are..." I didn't include the word "some" because it wasn't an issue of how many black people do it...and it still isn't, I don't care if 8656756 or 5 do.

Your choice. I don't particularly care either way.

don't get pissed then when you get labeled something

leave leahlo alone. her thoughts are impeccable, premature, and pure with no bad intentions. she's just not very cultured. she reminds me of "princess clara" from drawn together.

i think chapelle is funnier than chris rock.

I reserve the right to get pissed when anyone unfairly labels me anything, thanks.

He didn't have to say it. By the nature of who he is, and his touting of the institution of education for the past 30+ years, that message was implicit.

I think what you're trying to say is that you're putting the words into his mouth so you can condemn him for the infraction of imaginary hypocrisy.

...and we're back to the "an apple a day" logic. No one's saying getting a legit education isn't a good idea.

They "attack" him because he undermined his message by his actions. Cosby gives justification to the "path that has brought little but privation and pathology" by being a counter-example of the very same thing he's preaching. Therefore, he should be quiet and let someone else in a similar position of power, but who has actually done what Cosby said should be done, take the stage.

Tragic...please. He brought it upon himself.

Cosby's actions?? No one's said his bachelor's was anything but legit. He dropped out of high school, came to the realization that he had made a mistake, went back to get his GED and then go on to Temple, where he graduated from.

I'd say his actions are of someone that has walked the path so many urban blacks today walk, but never get back on track like Cosby did. He wasn't some silver-spoon St. Alban's apple blossom. Cosby knows what he's talking about, unlike his critics.

I already illustrated his hypocrisy in no uncertain terms, and others already recognise it without my help. If you choose not to see it, then so be it. You're simply wrong.

My father doesn't think it's legit, and he knows Cosby personally. He thinks it was paid for by endorsements for Temple University.

It's besides the point, but I went to school with his youngest daughter, Evan. She came to my birthday party when I was six. I've swam in the Cosby's swimming pool in Shelborne Falls.

Keep talkin'. You obviously have more insight through your internet searches than we do.

I wonder how funny people would think that was if it was done by Larry the Cable Guy. Chris Rock can say nigger all he wants, I still think it was offensive.

LMAO...you showed no such thing. The carefully-cribbed definition you cited doesn't even support the rickety structure you've built. It required at least some temporal coincidence ("whilst"), not to mention some equivalence in action. What you're trying to compare are two things separated by nearly 40 years of time, not to mention several dozen degrees of moral depravity removed.

If Cosby was piping down at the Port Authority and pimpin' ho's today while spouting about the importance of education, then you'd have some footing to point a finger of accusation. But because your daddy doesn't think he got his degree on the up-and-up, you're looking down your nose?

This says more about you than Cosby, Rory.

When Gringao loses footing in an "argument", he gets very wordy. If someone else can paraphrase this and prove it makes sense, please go ahead.

Huh? Did you understand any of what I posted?

Yes. And? Are you saying I shouldn't slight someone for paying off an institution for a degree and not attending one class rather than earn it legitimately?

Sorry, I'll use smaller words for you.

Please refer back to the partial definition of "hypocrisy" you yourself posted. It was a fraction of the entire definition that you linked, the part that even only remotely backed your absurd accusation. Yet it required two conditions be met to apply: roughly contemporaneous actions and equivalent actions. Your indictment fails on both fronts, Rory.

Yes. And? Are you saying I shouldn't slight someone for paying off an institution for a degree and not attending one class rather than earn it legitimately?

I'm saying that your evidence for that accusation is unverifiable. Pardon us if we don't take an unsupported, hearsay assertion from an anonymous poster's daddy as gospel.

well to counter that, i would suggest being clear when you post.

Nice to see you, JP. :rose:

Okay - I'm going to stop your ridiculous semantics argument right here. A hypocrite commits hypocritical acts. The definition I posted of a hypocritical act (nothing more) was the following: "A classic example of a hypocritical act is to denounce another for carrying out some action whilst carrying out the same action oneself".

Quote Cosby:

"People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around..."

Cosby bought degrees without taking classes. That slights the institution of education as much as those people who he suggests don't value it. There's your hypocrisy. Want a flow chart, too?

Gringao said:

Ahh - and that's your problem with this, not that such evidence would back my point. Good. Glad we cleared that up.

Oh my. Now I see why I didn't understand this from the beginning; it's a ridiculous argument.

You're saying (in part) that, because someone isn't in the midst of doing the opposite of what they say, that it doesn't qualify as a hypocritical act. Man, your hands must be bleeding with the number of straws you grasp at. There's no statute of limitation on hypocrisy. Where do you live - inside a computer?

Don't blame me, pal. You posted the definition. It's as clear as a bell, your lame name-dropping notwithstanding. Update: and it isn't just the time issue, as I said.

It's quite clear that Cosby believes what he's saying and that your attempts to link his actions with those he's criticizing are, at best, strained.
