We already had a combination dvd/vcr that patient1 thinks will be fine with the new tv. It seems to work so far, anyway. I don't even know what a DVR is so I'm guessing I don't need one. Same for the sound system- don't think we need one. The tv sounds pretty good as is. We'll see.

DVR is a TiVo-like device with a hard drive instead of tape.

Ah, we don't bother with TiVo, either. If there is something we want to see, we just use the VCR to tape it.

I have to say, I honestly can't understand you paying that amount.. the thing will devalue just like that *clicks fingers* ..I'm obviously not having a go.. but honestly, don't you just feel awfull watching that amount of money disappear? I know I would.. you coulda gone on a holiday! I guess I don't understand why people value that extra bit of definition or space tv-wise for so much.. I'd never spend more than £250.

To each his own Dodger, but a flat screen lasts for 7-10 years, a weeks vacation is only a week............

I don't care if it devalues because I'll have it for years and years. I'm not planning on ever selling it. The tv is just a fraction of the total home remodel project cost, but it is part of the total design for the living room. I had an old ugly entertainment center which is now gone (given away with the old tv to someone else who can use it.)

We've already taken several nice holidays this year. It isn't an "either/or" for us with the tv vs. vacation. The cost of the tv isn't a hardship.
 
What difference does it make to anybody what Cheyenne is spending on a T.V.? If they can afford it and obviously they feel they can or they wouldn't, it's their business.... isn't it?

I don't understand why you have to defend yourself. If that idea held true that Cheyenne shouldn't buy the tv because of Katrina, then we should all not buy anything except meat, bread, eggs and milk. One pair of shoes per two years, one pair of pants, one shirt, two changes of knickers and a jumper for the winter. The rest of our money should go to people all over the world who need food, clothing and shelter.

I don't think anybody is going to do that.

She's got the money, let her buy the fucking tv without having to hear your mouth.
