Scientology..do you really believe it?

Oh, so they tell you what they believe in after you give them money. That's a great fucking idea. Hubbard was not a stupid man.

No, he wasn't stupid. He knew exactly what he was doing and was pretty damn good at it. Shitty writer though.

The aims of Scientology are a world without insanity, without criminals, without war, where the able can prosper and where Man is free to rise to greater heights.

Sounds like The Foundation For A Better Life.

As mentioned, the crackpot religions (Scientology, Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Jehovah's Witnesses, Christians) always employ this vague ideology as part of their marketing.

Same with all religions taken over by mankind.

Thank god the more well-established religious institutions like the Catholic Church aren't power hungry and greedy.

I don't really know enough about it to have much of an opinion. If it helps people live a better life then why not? From what Kobalt said, sounds like there is something to it.

um I think they have all been taken over by mankind at one time or another.

We all know that Americans are rightfully or wrongfully seen as some of the worlds most gullible folk.

Do you (Americans only please) really believe that Scientology is a credible religion?
It isn't credible as a religion but there are some things in it that make sense about the way people relate to each other ... but I didn't need Scientology to tell me that.

But if it only claims to help and really only wants your money then it's worthless. At least most other religions actually try to preach a message that is good at it's heart. Scientology tells you that taking meds or seeing a shrink for depression is wrong and should never be done. I don't think that's helping the mom with post natal depression who's got a gun in her mouth or her kids in the tub.

It helps some live better lives to be sure. Still sucks IMO though.

Very compelling comeback.
I agree.

What are the basic tenets of this religion? What does a scientologist believe? I got the following from the official website. It's a little vague.

"What is Scientology?
The aims of Scientology are a world without insanity, without criminals, without war, where the able can prosper and where Man is free to rise to greater heights.
And if you were to ask any Scientologist they would tell you it is a practical religion, with practical answers — tools that can be applied to achieve greater awareness and purpose in the here and now.
Or, as we say it, when you have the answers to life's questions — there is virtually no part of existence it cannot be applied to for the betterment of life itself.
What people need are real solutions, real tools to deal with and effectively overcome human problems.
Every one of us has experienced it.
Think back yourself and you'll remember when you tried to help a grieving loved one, a struggling child, a friend overcome by addiction.
And where you have failed, it's only because you lacked effective answers to accomplish what you desired"
I've heard it is like the Rainbow Girls, Masons, and all the other wierd little cultish clubs ... you have to join to find out what it is about really.

At least if you become a Mason you get to rule the world and know the secret to the holy grail. Bet the scientologists can't beat that!

Was it Groucho Marx who said "I'd never join a club that would have me as a member"?

Oh, o.k taking meds should "never" be done, I didn't know that. I only seen a very short segment of Tom Cruise talking about it. I think for sure there shouldn't be the amount of people taking them, but they do work for some people. You should never see a shrink for depression? Wow! I didn't know that. It makes me think how manipulated people can become. A person should not just believe something, they should examine that belief.

You also get to learn the 'secret handshake' dont forget.

Tom Cruise is such a stupid fuck. He said there was no such thing as a chemical imbalance and that ritilan was no better than a street drug and that psychiatry was a pseudo-science (possible argument there but I don't think there is about it being helpful) and that taking drugs was wrong because you can solve all your problems with scientology. He's a worthless fuck and his dumb ass comments could result in someone dying because they believe him.

Most people, Tom Cruise and Matt Lauer included, miss the point on the argument against Ritalin use.

Ritalin works. So does a frontal lobotomy.

A good shrink will help you to help yourself and not just load you with drugs. The trouble is in finding a good shrink or any good doctor for that matter.

Didn't you know Tom is with Katie so he can train her.

Lauer wasn't trying to hype the drug though, he just said he knew people whom it had helped. Cruise said it should never be used at all and called Lauer glib for thinking it would do someone some good. I don't think there are many people who don't believe it's way overprescribed but it does help some.

Not only a stupid fuck..a dangerous stupid fuck. Who because of his fame is given way to much power and say over the less fortunate of his nation.
Very dangerous indeed.
