I wonder how many buildings in West Virginia are named for Robert Byrd.

Certain parts of Florida are still pretty backwards. In some towns you need to watch your back if you date outside of your race.

It's Florida. Of course they do.

On another note, a friend of mine went down to Texas about 8 years ago and found a sign next to a town line with a noose hanging off it, saying something akin to "Keeping Niggers Out Since [year]".

No reason to doubt his story. The Klan holds rallies outside of cities like Houston to this day.

These are the same states that still fly the confederate flag and think football is more important the education. And why the hell do they still have a bug up their ass about that war? Get fuckin' over it!

I wish I could give you a name but alas it escapes me...
The fact that we live in "the day and age" we do and things like this continue in America is appalling....

Sorry Morwen did a parody without having read your thread, and wow, that was a good read :) and it did not need a parody…

Florida has always seemed like a backwards ass state anyway.. so this doesn't surprise me much..

They want their slaves back I guess. Some of them are so messed up they still say that non-white people are just animals. I overheard that once in a resturant. He didn't mean they act like animals, he ment that they were a lower form of life and not human.

As far as that goes, this particular issue is like scratching the surface with a feather.

I get that...it's the small mindedness that never ceases to amaze me...
It is such a shame people waste so much time with hate...

The war that you speak of "The Civil War" is called "The war between the States" & probably other names as well. I don't think they'll get over that war until we have another war with them or we (the North) appease them and say, yes, you're the winner.

Florida is very backwards, espically Northern Florida, I lived there for 2 years. Then we got smart & moved back to civilization.

I ride past Nathan Bedford Forrest Park (founder of the KKK) every day, right past his grave and the awesome statue above it. Very controversial in town these days. People say it is part of our proud Confederate heritage. Proud? They had one war. They were on the wrong side of it. They lost. Yee hah!

They should change the name to Traitors Park, with a big statue of a rebel ramming a bayonet into the blue belly of a loyal Union soldier. They could festoon the trees with nooses and lynch a colored every Friday for the tourists.

Can't find a "known" Klan member on the list of Elementary schools. There is a Nathan Bedford Forrest High School. You would have a tough time not finding a Robert E. Lee, NB Forrest, Stonewall Jackson, Sidney Lanier or Jefferson Davis elementary/high school in most of the former Confederate States.

How the R.E. Lee elementary School in Spotsylvania, VA. I know its not Florida, but ya know. :)

I think it's mostly roads since he's been a driving force in getting funding for our state roads.

But, yeah, I agree with your sentiment.

There's racism everywhere - in every state, regardless if it's a large city or a small town. There is racism on Lit - some people just keep the disgusting remarks to pm's instead of posting them in public.

So tell us your fears?
