yet the reason that you changed the name in the first place was privacy or whatever - so you can't say what that name actually is. often, the only way to let people know who you were is PM.
but i do agree that changing your name and then saying that you used to be this person or that defeats the purpose a little. it's hard to get around the whole thing, though, unless you try to pass yourself off as a newbie again, which still is deceptive.

I solved the problem by just getting a nickname for my nickname. Because of a thread way back, I became Tweeks and a handful of people call me that. I think it's just fun! I've registered it and claimed it, but have never posted under it. Changing back and forth seems like too much wasted time for me. I have my limits, ya know...

I changed my name for privacy reasons, which is why I don't want to mention the old name here. I told my friends who I was and answered any PMs when people asked me who I was. I also posted a thread and have commented on the situation on numerous other threads.

I don't care if people don't recall my old name. But, I didn't announce it because I used the same AV, signature, posting style, etc. and don't spend a ton of time here.

It is tough to maintain privacy if you provide the very information that could jeopardize said privacy. On the flip side, i am sure you felt it important to let your friends know and give others a heads up in order to retain some of your other "self" established under your previous name. Whatever the case, i hope it worked itself out for you and hopefully, you haven't placed yourself in a similar situation.
