Playing "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" - which is not in fact a kinky sex/travel game, but a simulation of war in China of yesteryear.

It's a nice Zen game for me (everyone else I know calls it boring) and I slowly build resources and armies, recruit my officers and spend two days or so beating up on Ancient China per scenario. Then I start over.

I create my own officers as well, who are mostly female and generally have names like "Bu Bu Ki Ti"

Occasionally there comes that moment where you see: "Bu Bu Ki Ti has taken Wu Hu from Cao Pi" Wu Hu and Cao Pi I didn't even make up. Real Chinese history there.

We make our own fun.

Setting boats on fire should be cheating.

Setting boats on fire is AWESOME.

One of my favorite old games...Road Rash...a motorcycle race game.

You could have a bunch of weapons. A billy club, oil to put on the road...but my favorite was a cattle prod. Simple joys.

Setting boats on fire is BS. You're all sailing your fleet and  oh shit fire boat!

Road Rash, not bad. Rock n Roll Racing. Out fucking standing.

Romance also has magical damage and confusion where people just turn on each other and beating the crap out of themselves. Also fun.

Everquest II is another one of my favorites. They have pets and followers and so I have a Freeblood (vampire) Necromancer with a melee pet (Aggravated) and a diety pet (Assault) and a vanity pet (Battery) and a little pack pony that carries my materials (Pwny)

I can also make my own dungeons with dire bear creatures I named named "Ursa Owie"

I haven't played Rock N Roll Racing.

Only played a couple of the Romance's back in the day. As you say they can be quite. . .tedious. Never played Everquest but I refuse to MMO, I don't have a soul but I hear those games steal them.

Rock n Roll racing is a classic. So much fun.

Husband, son and daughter just commence to snore when it's on the screen, fortunately I now have the computer version and I avoid the public humiliation of enjoying the boring. The only good thing I ever heard about it was that Orson Scott Card used the original game as an inspiration when writing "Ender's Game."

MMO's are awesome. Met Ulaven in an MMO years ago. There's an advantage to being a girl, certainly, or at least there used to be. We were unheard of and this sort of myth, like girls didn't really exist. Of course now the chat clients make it clear there really are girls out there.

For all the fun I've had, MMO's can have my soul, it's worth it.

I'll have to see if I can find a copy. What system? I also want to find a copy of Gemfire...an old Sega game. Loved that game, also strategy, also probably boring to everyone else.

I also miss Toe Jam and Earl.

I am still going around with an arrow in my knee, and I also am replaying Fallout: New Vegas cause I like a little pain with my fun.

I definitely suffer from a combination of bad taste and easily amused. I used to have to name all my characters myself, and when you make 100 characters you can get a bit punchy.

In the newest version, thankfully, there's a random generator that creates a name along with family connections. Phew. Most of my characters are named Bao Li and such, but Bao Li capturing Wu Hu from Cao Pi still happens.

Fallout is Bioware, isn't it? I couldn't play it because I usually don't like the industrial apocalypse, but I've watched my husband and son play it.

I'm a fantasy addict.

Played Dragon Age INTO. THE. GROUND.

Though I ignored the second one. Not good enough.

Well that's because gaming girls are a myth. Even with chat on you're still a mythical creature. Worse everybody is hitting on you so oddly enough the best way to get your attention is to utterly ignore you. Also adult women and prepubecent boys sound too much alike. I'll never forget playing Left 4 Dead and I was on escort duty (helping some guy get some absurd acheivement so I had a friend along to help who was a 12 year old guy) about half way in the guy starts hitting on the boy hard core and for whatever reason he's playing along. I had to mute my shit to keep from giving it away. T'was hilarious. Of course now I always ask, are you a girl or a little boy just so we don't have an confusion.

As for Rock n Roll Racing Super Nintendo and Genesis I believe, it was made by Blizzard but like Lost Vikings that might be before they started calling themselves Blizzard, not sure about that.

You're preaching to the choir. I created a thread here about funny Asian names, and everyone called me racist because of it. Why is that racist? Their names should be "Bu Hu".

I learned my lesson about that after Earthbound. It asked me what my favorite game was at the beginning and I said sex. Turns out thats the name of your most powerful spell. I had psychic sex with a giant naked mole rat. :( Taught me not to be a cheeky bastard.

I just finished DA:O and DA2 will be after fallout. I loves me some Alistair.

Dont be a dumbass, Dumbass.

Left 4 Dead is the zombie survivor horror?

I've considered the voice chat to be a bit of a mixed blessing. I actually like roleplay and have played male and female characters and bringing reality into it seems...less...artistic. Purist, I suppose.

I'll check it out and see if I can find it or a digital version.

I replay Alpha Centauri a lot also.

I'm sure Asians make fun of gaijin and gwailo folks. Or I wouldn't know the words.

I got a hack so I can punch Alistair out and get the hero ending with a romance.

I'm never getting a new computer, those save games and hacks are golden.

Is it like 'Risk'? I love Risk.

A bit. A few differences. Risk doesn't take 48-72 hours to play. Risk has that element of escalation where if you play long enough, whoever gets the best timing of a set of cards can wipe the board out.

The series started very micro-managey and you are put in charge of castles. In earlier versions you had to do every single thing yourself. So you build the farming, economics, faith and martial force of each castle. As games progressed it became more of a sim, and you could play as an individual serving a nation or try to take over the world, which was a nice change. Then they added sitting around and drinking with your followers to build loyalty. The latest version isn't my favorite, but it is the last and it's available on computer. It's much more of a sim where you can't take over the world so much as set up the conditions where your followers take over the world. The world being China, of course.

Of course they do! They hate Gaijin in Japan. I don't mind if they mock my name.

It's not so much mocking Chinese as the silliness of the thing. It's me being an idiot, not Chinese people being idiots. I make sure all my kick-ass officers have int and charisma of 100. It's not their fault I am easily amused.

I loves me some Fallout. Pretty much every version, too. Nothing quite like a little post-apocalyptic violence to help relieve stress.
