Australians outside the gender binary?

Very cool! Would be nice to have this consideration on the US census as well. The government's guideline for transgender people is to "mark the gender with which you identify" but what if you're intersexed or genderqueer and don't identify along the binary at all?

Go Australia!

Yep, and there would also be benefits to including something that specifically acknowledges the existence of trans people rather than lumping in with cisgender categories. It's hard to get information about rare populations who experience social disadvantage - usually you have to use survey techniques that are susceptible to bias - but a census which records that status would make it much easier.
