A big time lit theif. Recognize yours or others?

Thank you STG!

I copy and pasted all that into an e-mail and I am going to have my publisher friend send all this to amazon as well. This way if the authors do not want to come forward they will be "represented" and if they do go to amazon its a double whammy.

Thank you for your hard work on this!

hey y'all,

i don't hang around here much (sorry!) but this just pissed me off so bad i spent a couple of hours today chasing these copied stories - and boy was there a lot to chase!

the way i checked is simple: i took the first sentence of Turner's story (anywhere i could find one after the disclaimer BS) and ran an exact phrase search on google. then read the next couple of lines just to make sure it wasn't a freak coincidence. guess what, it never was...

below is a quick list. all authors had been contacted to let them know their work was stolen.

Wow... she should get points for persistence, though not ingenuity.

It's one thing recycling someone's stories as your own, but merely changing the names (and that too not successfully) is a new low.

On the other hand, and this is just a thought, would it be entirely out of the question to check for such things automatically? Off the top of my head, I think a standard webcrawler could take pieces of story text and search for exact/near matches elsewhere on the net. It could generate a list of flagged pages which can then be inspected more closely for plagiarism. In fact, a crawler in tandem with a plagiarism software, can work even better.

Just thinking out loud. Implementing the above isn't as easy as it sounds.

even more copies by the busy lady:

there's a ton more... but i'm getting tired. basically almost every story i could find a snippet of text for was stolen:

you're right, but...

problem is, her stories aren't easily crawlable because the text is within a 'preview' window.
i couldn't even copy-and-paste easily, i had to actually re-type the sentence i was searching into the Google search box.

of course, it's super easy for Amazon to implement such an automatic check since *they* have the text...

problem is, i'm afraid they don't have any motivation to do it.

they make money off of Ms. Turner. and their T&C's probably put all the risk on the author, meaning if someone comes forward with a copyright infringement claim all they say is "she did it!!", remove the offending book and voila! they're done and 'clean'.

Good on ya STG
Hopefully this piece of dirt will get her dues.

My fear is that Amazon will only look at the bottom line and not give a stuff

I meant more for our reference, so we can be made aware if someone has lifted our work. It sure beats randomly searching once in a while.

Again, just an idea. I'll look into crawler4j and jsoup when I get back and see if I can fashion something worthwhile.

again, the problem is that the 'look inside' text (the preview Amazon offers on the books) isn't indexed by Google, at least not as far as i could tell...

and if it's not indexed (crawled) by Google's almighty crawlers, i doubt it's easy to do - but hey, i've seen programmers work miracles before! :)

if there were a way to get Amazon to do it as part of the ebook upload process - now *that* would've been the perfect solution. again, the problem there is that moneywise they have zero interest in doing it. they make their money off of the stolen books, too...

She has listings on Goodreads. Anyone who is confident that a work she has listed there was ripped off could hit her work on Goodreads with a 1 and leave the comment on that entry that she stole it. Goodreads readers (and Goodreads itself) should get the message fairly quickly. I have librarian status at Goodreads and tried to slap an overall alert on her page, but it didn't take. Can't do much elsewhere as I don't have pen name accounts anywhere else. For someone who does, there's reference on her blog to a radio interview she did last summer. I'll bet the radio interviewer would be interested in hearing from a couple of ripped-off authors that he was played for a sucker. Might even cut her off at the knees in a followup radio piece.

Any indy author-especially o0ne of erotica-can tell you that amazon is a bunch of hypocritical assholes on multiple levels.

But....they are diligent when it comes to things like copyright.

In fact the way it works is if you put a book on amazon that is still on lit or it was lifted and is on a free site they will hold the book from being published and ask if you are the real author.

Now all they look for is a yes, which covers their ass. But when something like this comes up, they will block the book fairly quickly and her account will be history because at that point she has violated their terms and I doubt a penny of royalties will come her way.

Many of these books were listed in May and June. Payment is a 60 day cycle she will see nothing from May or June. However if any were from April or sooner she just got paid end of June for those.

If you do find places on the Internet to note her theft of this or that be sure to mention that Smashwords dropped her entire listing. That will be evidence that anyone questioning the claim can check out and will have meaning to them beyond the she said/she said.

Nice one Lovecraft.
That has cheered me up a bit.
It is the poor ripped off authors i feel for.
I wonder if there is a way they could get the royalties due from the sales ?

They can request it, but I doubt they would see anything. Odds are it would be a negligible amount. Going by her amazon rankings she wasn't selling much at all.

The radio piece.

My book is no longer there, so they are already proceeding. Hopefully they see the other complaints being lodged as well

Has any affected author brought this to the attention of Laurel/Manu? A big time theft from Literotica authors should, I think, be pursued with Amazon by Literotica. It isn't just the authors being ripped off by this.

Good thought. I will send her the link to this thread

Alicia is taken as well as "Lucy Cat" are also down now.

So other authors have already chirped up.

Matter of time now because what will damn her is all the different pen names on lit. If she had taken from just one or two she could have tried to claim she is them, but not all these names.

I have hesitated to point it out, but I think if she'd taken them from stories posted from accounts that seem to have been inactive for the past three years, she probably would have gotten away with it. This is a big reason why both Amazon and the Lit. authors should be hearing aggressive defense from the Lit. management (assuming they know it has happened). This could be a Web site killer.

As has been expressed in fears on this thread before, both posting to Lit. and sending a draft story to a largely anonymous editor is not riskless. (And the volunteer editor system here at Literotica is an uncontrolled mess.) Of course, an author should consider and come to grips with this before posting here--as well as come to grips with the lack of controls on the Internet and the highly unlikely possibility that legal recourse (and thus leverage with a bite) will be applied to individuals posting erotica on the Internet.

Even in the copyright zone, someone like E.F. Turner could file for formal copyright on what she steals and have a 98 percent expectation she would be the first to acquire formal copyright--and thus the legal owner, no ifs ands or buts. Chomp on that a bit. I haven't seen it happen yet, but there's no reason why it couldn't.

Would that copyright hold up to a challenge if I can prove I was the one who wrote it? Besides being posted on lit, I have every single file and rough draft I ever created... Probably over 100 files. How could she possibly prevail?

It's interesting you say that because from the second I found out about this my first thought was that there are stories on this site 10+ years old the authors of which have been dormant for years. Odds against being found out would have been cut down considerably.

I have no real knowledge of some of the other stolen works, but she had mine and one from Silkstockinglover on SW. Granted mine was 3 years old here, but I am currently very active and so is Silk. Not to mention we're on a lot of top lists and get a lot of current attention.

This started because someone recognized my book on her page so they either bought mine at some point or recognized it from lit.

Bad targets. Again, stupid should hurt and it is as we speak.

I almost hesitate to mention this, but the nerve of this turd infuriates me. She's just posted the following on her facebook page:

The Billionaire's Reality Show part 3 is out and part 4 is in the works.

Coming of Age part 3 is also in the works.

My NEWEST and most modern story - Clara, is almost ready to be posted! This one is for all of my vampire loving readers -- AND it is a mainstream novel! Meaning no age restrictions! Clara will be a serial with an adventure that will have you turning pages!!!

And to those who have said a few things about me --- no press is bad press. I do not partake of other people's drama, never have and never will. But every time you mention my name, provide links to my works, blog, etc it is PRESS and any entertainer knows no press is bad press.

So continue doing it by all means.I have sold 15 copies of Breaking Taylor today alone!!!

It depends if it gets that far and people can say it was their idea and you beat them to it or the docs were theirs.....

My book was supposed to have a sequel to it and be written by another author likea chain story and it was based on an idea in story ideas that I volunteered to write providing the story was "mine" to do what I wanted afterwards.

So I have about 30 e-mails from not only the guy who had the basic concept of twins one who saved another;s life and the other author right to where we were discussing names.

But I as told even that might be irrelevant. But end of the day all she can have is the doc she pasted the stolen work into and her claim she has 200 pen names here:rolleyes:

I mean, seriously. Aside from the fact that being called a plagiarist IS bad press for an author, she's still going strong with her thievery. I wish we could have her IP banned for all time, on every site known to man.

First of all..... this is the paperback (self published) of breaking taylor #8,486,801 yes that is 8 million.....

This is the kindle ranking #934,975

For those who do not understand the rankings that kindle ranking means no copies sold in somewhere around 3 weeks (roughly)

15 sales in a day would have you around the 8k range so she is just all around full of shit

I would love to post to her facebook but I don't have one.
